Our face of education

In the early 1800s, Horace Mann, the father of public education, championed universal, free education and set his sights on education reform. He believed in education, and, although met with some opposition, spurred a movement in support of free, public education. So in 1945 when two Springfield, Illinois, teachers saw a need for quality, affordable auto insurance for teachers, they looked to history for their company’s name. Our namesake. Our face - Horace Mann.

Today we serve nearly 4,000 school districts nationwide and employ more than 2,500 people dedicated to serving the educational community – some former educators themselves, and many children, friends, parents and siblings of educators. We understand it takes a village and we would just like to say "thank you!"
