Abe Across America - Accomodations

Fellowship winners are in for a real treat this summer as most accommodations will be taken care of during their five-day trip; including transportation to and from Springfield, Illinois, lodging and most meals.

Flying
Fellows will depart from and return to the same city. If you need to fly to or from an airport that is different from your home city/state, the travel agent will check the costs of both airports and determine which airport is the less expensive option.

Complimentary shuttle service is available from Lambert-St. Louis International Airport to your hotel in Springfield, Ill. We will advise the hotel shuttle of your arrival times. Taxi service may also be available but at your own expense.

Driving

The Abraham Lincoln Library Foundation will reimburse up to $450 to fellows who drive. Fellows are advised to keep a mileage log and will be given paperwork to complete to receive reimbursement.

Parking
If you drive to Springfield from your home for the fellowship program, your parking will be covered by the fellowship program. We will make arrangements with the hotel to see that parking fees are added to your room account and billed directly to the Foundation.

If you choose to rent a car while in Springfield, the cost of parking will not be covered.

Staying longer
For those who wish to add time at the beginning or end of the trip, the Foundation will only book flights to St. Louis, arrive on the Sunday preceding the fellowship program, and departing on the Friday or Saturday after the fellowship program, depending upon flight availability. We cannot make alternative travel arrangements with varying dates and cities. When you receive your airline e-ticket, you can make changes to the travel arrangements at your own expense. If your changes result in a car rental, the cost of parking and the car rental will not be covered.

The cost of lodging is included in the fellowship. Fellows will stay at the Hilton Springfield, 700 E. Adams Street in downtown Springfield, Ill. (217-789-1530). Located just one block from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, the 30-story hotel was recently remodeled and features 360 guest rooms, an indoor pool, fitness center, gift shop, and several restaurants - Bennigan's Grill and Tavern, Nick and Nino's Penthouse Steakhouse, and Starbucks.

Each fellow will enjoy their own room. Reservations and billing will be handled by the Foundation. Fellows will be responsible for any incidentals such as room service, in-room movies, phone calls and some meals. The hotel will ask for a credit card to cover incidentals.

Most meals will be provided, or Fellows will be given a stipend to purchase meals on their own.

While spouses and additional guests are welcome to join fellows in Springfield, they will not be able to attend fellowship programs. They also will not be able to accompany you on any tours, meals, special events or workshops associated with the program.

We will try to accommodate any health issues or Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) considerations.

A travel agent will make all travel arrangements. While every attempt will be made to place you in your preferred session, we cannot guarantee its availability.
