Fixed annuities
Fixed annuities help accumulate money for retirement by compounding interest on the money you put into them. Your payments earn a fixed rate of interest. While fixed annuities are a low-risk investment, they are backed only by the financial strength of the issuing life insurance company.
Variable annuities
Variable annuities allow you to invest in a number of variable investment options which in turn invest in a variety of underlying mutual funds. This causes the annuity’s value to fluctuate with market conditions and may result in the loss of the money invested.
Indexed annuities
An indexed annuity is a type of deferred annuity whose interest is tied to the performance of an outside measure such as the S&P 500 Index. While indexed annuities reduce the downside of market risk, they also limit the potential for gains.
