About Us

Horace Mann

We were founded in 1945 by two Springfield, Illinois teachers who saw a need for quality, affordable auto insurance for teachers. Horace Mann was originally called the Illinois Education Association Mutual Insurance Company but the name was changed to honor the father of the American public education system, Horace Mann.

Today, Horace Mann is the largest, national multiline insurance company focusing on educators’ financial needs with more than $6 billion in assets. Horace Mann offers auto and homeowners insurance, retirement annuities, life insurance and other financial solutions to educators and their families.

We also proudly support our nation’s educators through fellowship and other recognition programs. Please visit our Teachers’ Lounge for more information about these opportunities.
