Horace Mann names Kent Employee of the Year
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (March 4, 2019) – Horace Mann named Kelsey Kent of Sherman its 2018 Employee of the Year. Horace Mann President and CEO Marita Zuraitis presented the award to Kent, who is an Actuarial Director, at the company’s annual employee meeting. She was selected as one of 12 Employees of the Month among Horace Mann’s workforce of more than 1,500 non-agent employees. Kent has been with the company for five years.
“Kelsey is a true team player. She communicates effectively and is an extremely reliable employee,” says April Truebe, Vice President Property & Casualty Pricing. “She cares about her employees and takes time to invest in them and improve on what they can contribute. She goes above and beyond to move the company forward.”
“Kelsey wants everyone to feel heard and appreciated but understands the importance of keeping on task,” said Dan Lundeen, Senior Product Consultant. “Her kind heart and self-effacing manner are the same qualities that make the best teachers: those who can recognize and connect with students currently struggling; who make learning enjoyable; and, who inspire us to continually improve. I can’t think of anyone better suited to represent Horace Mann than someone with a teacher’s heart.”
Kent says it’s important to be compassionate and straightforward. “It helps my employees and me if I can communicate clearly, and makes all of our work more efficient,” said Kent. “Compassion is important in so many ways, but especially in developing products for our educator clients. You have to be compassionate in order to give them the best product they deserve.”
Kent was selected for Horace Mann’s pinnacle award after being named the February 2018 Employee of the Month. As Employee of the Year, Kent will receive various awards and represent Horace Mann at community events throughout the year.
