Horace Mann donates $10,000 to celebrate educators 40 DonorsChoose.org projects completed
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (May 23, 2019) – Horace Mann, a company helping educators achieve their financial goals, celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week earlier this month by completing 40 DonorsChoose.org projects with its $10,000 Spring Into Action Sweepstakes. DonorsChoose.org is a website that connects educators and donors. Educators from 20 different states won funding to complete their projects which included items like special chairs, math tools, books, bins and more.
“The students were so excited when the chairs arrived,” said Priscilla Zavala, a special education teacher at Kindred Elementary in San Antonio, Texas. She requested special seating for her students. “The classroom has become a fully flexible seating environment for our special education classroom.” Zavala says she’s able to allow students to select a chair that fits their needs and take it to their general education classroom to use.
Dawnell Bonsangue, a special education teacher at Marian Bergeson Elementary School in Laguna Niguel, California, requested wireless mice. “There is an amazing app called Mouse Mischief where students collaborate and engage in meaningful learning through using and clicking their mouse, instead of the pencil to paper type of learning,” said Bonsangue. “Students who get to engage in the lessons learn quickly and enjoy the experience of taking control.”
Since Horace Mann started its partnership with DonorsChoose.org in 2011, it has contributed more than $4 million to educator projects. Horace Mann also offers DonorChoose.org workshops for schools because it believes DonorsChoose.org offers a solution for educators, providing them the supplies they need for the classroom without having to spend their own hard-earned money.
