Horace Mann flash funds more than $16,000 in Topeka Public Schools DonorsChoose projects to honor Superintendent Tiffany Anderson

TOPEKA, Kan., March 2, 2023 – Horace Mann Educators Corporation (NYSE:HMN) is pleased to honor Topeka Public Schools Superintendent Tiffany Anderson, recently awarded the Women in School Leadership Superintendent Award from the AASA (The School Superintendents Association), by funding all $16,600 in DonorsChoose projects in her district on Thursday afternoon. The AASA presented Anderson with the award during its National Conference in San Antonio in February. The award, sponsored by Horace Mann and AASA, pays tribute to Anderson’s talent, creativity and vision of outstanding women educational administrators in the nation’s public schools.

"We know what an impact Tiffany makes in her district each day, and this flash funding will give more of the educators in that district the special tools they need to support learning," said Kelly Ruwe, National Business Solutions Executive, Horace Mann. "This is a great way to pay tribute to a woman who continues to innovate in Topeka Public Schools."

The flash funding completes nine DonorsChoose projects, impacting more than 1,500 students, and will bring a book vending machine, an ice maker, robotics kits, 3D printer, snacks and more into Topeka Public Schools. Rene Appelhans, a teacher at Highland Park Central Elementary, plans to use the book vending machine to recognize scholars.

"Scholars will be able to self-select texts from the book vending machine based on attendance incentives, recognition of following school-wide expectations and procedures, and recognition from staff and peers," said Appelhans in her project post. "Books will include student interest based topics, academic topics, books to spark the imaginations and creativity that is inside each student."
