Horace Mann recognizes Springfield’s 2024 top educators
Springfield Southeast High School’s Jason Potter named 2024 Springfield Public Schools Educator of the Year.
SPRINGFIELD, Ill., April 12, 2024 – Jason Potter, science teacher at Springfield Southeast High School, has been named the Horace Mann Educator of the Year. He was surprised with the news at the home of the Spartans, and students and staff cheered with excitement during an assembly to celebrate.
Jason has been with District 186 for over 20 years. Horace Mann presented him with a check and a crystal owl.
Educator of the Year finalists were Nathan Grieme (Enos Elementary), Jalene Hull (Franklin Middle School), William Russell (Lincoln Magnet School) and Amie Godefroid (Lindsay Elementary). Each received $250.
The Rising Star award was previously given to three promising teachers who have been with District 186 for four years or less. The Rising Stars are Terrelle Jackson (Lanphier High School) Emily Standley (Lincoln Magnet) and James Biggers (Springfield Southeast High School). They each received $250 and a crystal award.
The Administrator of the Year was also announced. The Administrator of the Year is Jason Wind, Executive Director of School Support. He received $500 and a crystal award. Administrator of the Year finalists were Sarah Beveridge (Butler Elementary) and Stacie Gordy (Springfield High School). Each received $250.
Horace Mann has sponsored the Educator of the Year program since its inception in 1988. An independent panel of Springfield-area community and education leaders selects the Educator of the Year, Administrator of the Year and the Rising Stars.
