Horace Mann Submits California Homeowners Rate Filing to Expand Availability Through the State’s Sustainable Insurance Strategy
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – May 8, 2026 – Horace Mann Educators Corporation (NYSE: HMN), a leading national provider of insurance and financial solutions for educators, has submitted a California homeowners insurance rate filing for review by the California Department of Insurance.
Horace Mann’s filing is designed to address rate adequacy, as well as to expand availability. By aligning premiums with risk and maintaining underwriting discipline, the company aims to better reflect current conditions.
“As a long-standing participant in the California market, we are focused on maintaining a balanced and sustainable approach,” said Vanessa Jackson, senior vice president, Property and Casualty, Horace Mann. “This filing reflects our continued collaboration with the Department and our commitment to serving educators in the state.”
Horace Mann remains focused on serving California’s educators wherever they choose to live. The company plans to continue growing its property business across the state by expanding agent capacity, supporting FAIR Plan depopulation efforts, and broadening educator outreach statewide.
The California Department of Insurance issued a public notice of the filing on April 17, and the rate filing is subject to review and approval by the Department.
